State Sen. Yvanna Cancela: “I am horrified by Mike Pence and this entire administration’s constant attempts to gaslight the American people and downplay the severity of this crisis.”
Ahead of Mike Pence’s visit to Nevada, the Nevada State Democratic Party hosted a press call yesterday to hold Donald Trump and Pence accountable for jeopardizing the health and safety of Nevadans with their ineffective pandemic response. As ballots go out in Clark County this week, Nevada Assemblywoman Susan “Susie” Martinez and Nevada Senators Moises “Mo” Denis and Yvanna Cancela set the record straight on Trump and Pence’s disastrous record of putting politics ahead of the health and safety of Nevada communities, and urged Nevadans to make their voices heard at the ballot box.
Nevada State Senate President Pro Tempore Mo Denis:
“Vice President Mike Pence, who leads the White House Coronavirus Task Force, has played a part in enabling this administration’s contempt for science […] As a result of this administration’s disastrous coronavirus response, far too many people have gotten sick, and 209,000 people have died from coronavirus including over 1,500 in Nevada alone. That’s a staggering loss, ripping apart families and communities here in our state and across the country. It didn’t have to be this bad […] Nevadans deserve better than Trump and Pence’s failed leadership. That’s why, this November, we’ll reject them once again.”
Nevada State Senator Yvanna Cancela:
“As a representative of Nevadans who have been deeply impacted by coronavirus in a myriad of ways, I am horrified by Mike Pence and this entire administration’s constant attempts to gaslight the American people and downplay the severity of this crisis […] It didn’t have to be this bad, but under this administration, it could get even worse. All because Trump and Pence are totally out of touch with the challenges that working families are facing. Now, less than a month after Trump endangered Nevadan’s health and safety with a reckless rally, Pence is running the same playbook and following in Trump’s footsteps. America and Nevada deserve better than Trump and Pence’s callousness and incompetence. That’s why this November, we’re going to elect leaders with the heart and experience to lead us through this crisis.”
Nevada State Assemblywoman Susie Martinez:
“As a Latina, I deeply understand the stakes of this election. We have an administration that has terrorized Latino families in Nevada and across the country […] We have an administration that failed to get desperately needed PPE to Nevada, and left our hospitality workers, many of whom are Latinas, vulnerable to this deadly virus. We are fighting for our lives and our livelihoods. Whether they mail-in their ballot, drop it off, or vote in person during early vote or on election day, Nevadans will have the choice to cast a vote for affordable health care access, for humane immigration policies, for leaders who follow the guidance of our nation’s science experts […] The 2020 election will be the most critical election of our lifetime and we are going to do everything in our power to get Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, as well as Democrats up and down the ticket, elected.”
