Republican Lawsuit Leaves Health Care for Millions in the Balance

In response to an announcement by the Supreme Court that oral arguments on the Republican lawsuit to strike down the Affordable Care Act will be heard on November 10th, Nevada State Democratic Party Chair William McCurdy II released the following statement:

“This election is a referendum on our values. Donald Trump and the Republicans have imperiled our democratic participation, our livelihoods, and our health. But the threat from the GOP started long before this pandemic struck our country. Trump and Republicans have doggedly attacked fundamental aspects of the Affordable Care Act since its passage, endangering individuals with pre-existing conditions, while failing to offer any alternative.

“Last May, Nevada legislators codified the Affordable Care Act’s protections for patients with pre-existing conditions into state law. That is because Nevada knows, when it comes to health care, there is no room for discrimination. No one should have to pay more or be denied coverage all together for circumstances outside of their control. This is especially true as a public health crisis rages in our state and across our country. If Trump and Republicans have their way, 300,000 Nevadans and 23 million Americans could lose health coverage. Health care is on the ballot this November. Nevadans must vote like our lives depend on it–for many of us, it does.”
