Senator Harry Reid released the following statement regarding NV Dems letter to Secretary of State Barbara Cegavske on the upcoming primary election:
“For decades, Republicans have led a coordinated effort to disenfranchise Americans across the country. This President is no different. It is not a mistake that Republican officials are using the crisis as a way to limit voting, and it is not happening in a vacuum. These efforts are not one-off ideas by various state officials, they are planned, under the strategy that if less American citizens vote, the president and Republicans have a better chance of winning office.
“There is indisputable evidence that the process proposed by the Nevada Secretary of State will adversely impact communities of color. While I applaud a vast expansion of voting by mail, it cannot be the only voting method offered in a state where 90% of the voters choose to vote in person and it cannot be administered in a way that limits the ability for Nevadans to vote safely.
“It is our job as Americans to protect our own right to vote. And when we see efforts to take that right away from people, we have an obligation, regardless of party, to fight back. It should not have to become a legal fight to allow people to vote, but it will become a legal fight if the laws and the Constitution are ignored.”
