“A Devastating Failure”: Ivanka Can’t Spin Trump’s Broken Promises to Nevada

In response to Ivanka Trump’s appearance in Las Vegas today, Nevada Democratic Party Executive Director Alana Mounce released the following statement:

“She can’t spin the truth: Donald Trump has been a devastating failure for working families. Time and again, he promised to stand with Nevadans. Instead, he’s raising our taxes, hiking health care costs, and sabotaging women and families’ prospects for the future. Nevadans saw through Trump’s empty rhetoric three years ago, and we’re going to reject it again on November 3.”

An advisor to the president, Ivanka Trump “focuses on education and economic empowerment of women and their families as well as job creation and economic growth.” Nearly three years since taking office, let’s take a look at how she and her boss are doing so far:

Women and Families

Promise: “I will do more for women than anybody else.”

Reality: Shortly after taking office, Trump revoked critical protections against pay disparities and workplace harassment.

Reality: Trump’s administration rescinded Obama-era campus sexual assault guidelines and narrowed its definition of sexual harassment.

Promise: “We’re fighting to unlock the potential of every American community and every American family who hope and pray and yearn for a better future for their children.” [Trump Campaign Rally, Las Vegas NV, 10/30/16]

Reality: Under his proposal to cut SNAP benefits, more than 30,000 children in Nevada could lose their access to free school lunches.

Promise: “At the core of my contract is my plan to bring back our jobs.” [Trump Campaign Rally, Las Vegas NV, 10/30/16]

Reality: Trump’s tax scam incentivizes corporations to ship even more jobs overseas.

Promise: “We’re going to cut taxes for middle class family [sic] by hundreds of billions of dollars a year.” [Trump Campaign Rally, Las Vegas NV, 10/30/16]

Reality: Trump’s tax scam will hike taxes on more than 535,000 Nevadans while handing massive giveaways to powerful corporations.

Promise: “We’re going to have health care that is so good and so much less expensive … I’m asking for your vote, so we can save health care for every family in your state and in this country.” [Trump Campaign Rally, Las Vegas NV, 10/30/16]

Reality: If Trump successfully overturns the Affordable Care Act, 282,000 Nevadans could lose their health insurance—alongside millions of Americans across the country.
