While Jacky Rosen and Catherine Cortez Masto demanded Trump follow through and oppose Yucca Mountain with real action, Dean Heller proved again by remaining silent that he puts his party leaders in Washington before Nevada families
From health care and immigration to the Supreme Court and now Yucca Mountain, Sen. Dean Heller keeps proving he will always be a loyal rubber stamp for President Trump instead of an independent voice who puts Nevadans first.
Last weekend, President Trump told a Nevada TV station that he “would be very inclined to be against” reviving the failed Yucca Mountain project and that he agrees with the people of Nevada who overwhelmingly oppose our state becoming a nuclear waste dump for the rest of the country. But then Energy Secretary Rick Perry recently confirmed that Trump lied – the Trump Administration is in fact still moving forward with plans to turn Nevada into the nation’s nuclear dumping ground.
While Nevada Democrats like Congresswoman Jacky Rosen and Senator Catherine Cortez Masto quickly called on President Trump to keep his promise and keep nuclear waste out of our state, Heller fell in line, sat silently on the sidelines, and refused to hold Trump accountable for committing to respect the will of Nevadans.
Nevada State Democratic Party spokesperson Sarah Abel released the following statement:
“While Jacky Rosen and Catherine Cortez Masto demanded Trump follow through and oppose Yucca Mountain with real action, Dean Heller proved again by remaining silent that he puts his party leaders in Washington first at Nevada’s expense. Senator Heller claims he has a direct line to President Trump, but it’s clear he’ll only use it to ask for high-priced fundraisers and divisive campaign rallies supporting his re-election bid, instead of advocating for the issues that matter to Nevadans. This Republican charade on Yucca Mountain is exposing Dean Heller as an ineffective lawmaker, and his political games are just a sham.”
