In a new POLITICO article, the president of Hispanic in Politics and registered Republican Fernando Romero criticized Sen. Dean Heller’s Hispanic outreach, saying the campaign’s ‘Juntos con Heller’ events have been “poorly attended” and that Republican attack ads conflating Rosen’s support for immigrants with MS-13 “will turn off Latinos.”
Romero said: “We’re not stupid. We see what’s going on. It’s the same movement that Sharron Angle used, so it’s going to backfire on them the same way.”
Founded in 1980, Hispanics in Politics is a nonpartisan nonprofit and Nevada’s oldest Hispanic political organization.
With only 10 days to go until Election Day, Heller’s floundering re-election campaign is struggling with the Latino community and his fake investment in recently-released Spanish-language television ads were discovered to be nothing more than a press stunt. The results of Heller’s lack of outreach to Latinos are becoming apparent: a recent Latino Decisions poll found Heller trailing Democratic Congresswoman Jacky Rosen by nearly 50 points among Latino voters.
