Sen. Dean Heller just proved to Nevadans why he can’t be trusted to continue representing them in Washington, D.C. Instead of putting Nevadans first, Heller sided with President Trump and Republican leaders like Mitch McConnell by casting a deciding vote in support of the Administration’s decision to expand junk insurance plans, which will raise costs for Nevadans on the state health exchange and also threaten coverage for people with pre-existing conditions and leave many families without essential health benefits like mental health and maternal care.
Nevada Democratic State Party spokesperson Sarah Abel released the following statement:
“Dean Heller has once again shown Nevadans he’s not looking out for them in Washington because he’s too busy siding with Republican leaders, special interests, and big insurance companies. By voting to allow the Trump administration to continue sabotaging the Affordable Care Act with these junk health insurance plans, Dean Heller is putting Nevadans at risk of insurance companies discriminating against people with pre-existing conditions and failing to cover essential health benefits like maternity care, mental health care, substance abuse treatment, or prescription drugs. This vote is a clear reminder before the election that Nevada voters still can’t trust Dean Heller to protect their health care because he’s a self-serving politician who’s more focused on keeping his party bosses happy and getting campaign cash from the insurance industry than protecting regular people.”
