Heller in early September: “I’m going to put $100 down… and bet that Kavanaugh is a Supreme Court Justice by the end of the month”
Time’s run out on a bet Heller made earlier this month that President Trump’s controversial Supreme Court nominee, Judge Brett Kavanaugh, would be confirmed by the end of the month. Kavanaugh has come under intense scrutiny after credible allegations of sexual assault surfaced against him in the past month. Heller previously dismissed the allegations as just “a little hiccup” in the confirmation process.
As the Senate hearing on those credible allegations happened this week, Heller proved to Nevadans that he is still the same spineless partisan politician. Heller started out the week trying to hide from the press, refusing to answer whether he still had “no reservations” about confirming Kavanaugh. Then, after the hearing, Heller released a mealy-mouthed statement that made clear he does not believe Dr. Christine Blasey Ford and will side with Mitch McConnell and Donald Trump.
Heller’s current position is that no matter what the FBI finds in its investigation, he intends to vote to confirm Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court.
Nevada State Democratic Party spokesperson Sarah Abel released the following statement:
“Voting to confirm someone to a lifetime position on the nation’s highest court is one of the most important jobs the Senate has, and Dean Heller isn’t taking it seriously. Instead, Heller has refused to thoroughly vet the nominee, dismissed credible allegations of sexual assault as a little hiccup in the process, and ignored his constituents’ concerns about the nominee. Heller is more concerned about keeping Mitch McConnell and Donald Trump happy than he is about listening to Nevadans.”
