Following some pretty terrible headlines ahead of Trump’s rally tonight, today serves as a reminder to Nevada voters that the Nevada GOP—especially Sen. Dean Heller and Attorney General Adam Laxalt—are bad for Nevada women. In the past 24 hours, Heller referred to credible allegations of attempted rape as “a little hiccup”, while California law enforcement is cleaning up Laxalt’s mess after he came up empty-handed in his sham “investigation” into his political ally, Storey County Sheriff Gerald Antinoro, for allegations of rape and sexual harassment.
Tonight, both Heller and Laxalt are set to campaign with President Donald Trump, who has his own alarming history of sexual misconduct. And despite the credible allegations against Trump’s Supreme Court nominee, Heller continues to have “no reservations” about Judge Brett Kavanaugh and Laxalt continues to “enthusiastically support” him. Kavanaugh has been openly hostile to Roe v. Wade and women’s reproductive rights as a federal judge.
Nevada State Democratic Party Executive Director Alana Mounce released the following statement:
“From dismissing credible allegations of sexual assault as a little hiccup, to campaigning with Trump tonight, Heller and Laxalt are making it clear to Nevada women that they don’t stand with them. If Heller and Laxalt want to stand with Nevada women, they should put their partisan politics aside and start taking sexual misconduct seriously.”
