Executive director of Nevada’s health insurance exchange: Heller’s legislation “arguably weakens” the ACA’s pre-existing protections “to the detriment of consumers, providers and Nevada’s public health”
Kaiser Family Foundation: “it’s kind of like throwing a 10 foot rope to somebody in a 20 foot hole”
Sen. Dean Heller’s bogus Republican legislation that would undermine current protections for Americans with pre-existing medical conditions. A new story from The Nevada Independent documents how “health-care policy experts have come down hard on the bill.”
Executive director of Nevada’s health insurance exchange: Heller’s legislation “does not strengthen or even uphold the ACA’s pre-existing protections” and “arguably weakens them to the detriment of consumers, providers and Nevada’s public health”
Kaiser Family Foundation: “If you’ve got a serious condition, it’s kind of like throwing a 10 foot rope to somebody in a 20 foot hole”
And when pressed for a reason behind the decision to back this sham piece of legislation, after refusing to denounce or push back on the Trump Administration’s decision to argue in court that these coverage protections for pre-existing conditions are unconstitutional, Heller’s office refused to directly address a request for more information about why he’s backing the legislation.
Nevada State Democratic Party spokesperson Sarah Abel released the following statement:
“Things have gone from bad to worse for Dean Heller’s desperate attempt at damage control on his record supporting efforts to weaken protections for pre-existing conditions. Health care experts are seeing through this deceptive smokescreen, and Nevada’s top health exchange official is slamming the bill.”
