Today, the NV Dems launched a new issue page on AskLaxalt.com, focusing on the fact that outgoing Republican governor Brian Sandoval refused to endorse fellow Republican Adam Laxalt to replace him. A week ago today, Sandoval confirmed that he will not be endorsing in the race to succeed him, a huge snub to fellow Republican Laxalt, who just days prior, told the Reno Gazette-Journal that he “wasn’t sure if he could expect Sandoval’s coveted support.”
Laxalt has been boosting his image as a “principled constitutionalist” compared to “RINO” Sandoval for years, using allies to attack Sandoval’s decisions to invest more money in public schools and expand Medicaid for hundreds of thousands of Nevadans, both of which Laxalt opposes.
For months, Sandoval made it crystal clear that he wouldn’t support a successor who wants to eliminate his public school investment, which Laxalt has pledged to do his entire campaign. Laxalt has also gone behind the pro-choice governor’s back to add Nevada to amicus briefs in support of anti-choice laws in other states. And instead of standing with the governor’s decision to expand Medicaid in Nevada, Laxalt has criticized Sandoval’s move and has sat silently by while the Trump administration continues to sabotage Nevada’s health care system.
Nevada State Democratic Party spokeswoman Helen Kalla released the following statement:
“Adam Laxalt has threatened to destroy Gov. Sandoval’s legacy and has undermined him at every turn. Laxalt has been on the wrong side of every issue important to Nevada, from education to health care to reproductive rights. It’s no wonder the governor doesn’t want to see Nevada dragged in the wrong direction by a right-wing extremist whose only loyalty is to his special interest donors.”
The NV Dems launched AskLaxalt.com to reveal Republican gubernatorial candidate Adam Laxalt’s dodges and radical views on a range of key issues. Each week, a new issue page will be rolled out to remind Nevadans just how out of step Laxalt is on issues that matter to them.
