As LGBTQ Nevadans celebrate the third anniversary today of the landmark U.S. Supreme Court case that affirmed marriage equality, it’s yet another reminder that Sen. Dean Heller has been on the wrong side of this issue.
Heller’s record on LGBTQ rights during his time as a Washington politician is dismal, from his personal opposition to marriage equality to voting against repealing the military’s discriminatory Don’t Ask Don’t Tell policy. This year, Heller has been silent so far in June on LGBTQ Pride Month.
Meanwhile, Jacky Rosen is endorsed by the Human Rights Campaign because she is a strong supporter of the Equality Act and a vocal critic of President Trump’s harmful anti-LGBTQ agenda.
Nevada Democratic Party spokesperson Sarah Abel released the following statement:
“Nevadans should never face discrimination because of who they love, and three years ago the Supreme Court affirmed the right to marriage equality. Sen. Heller has been on the wrong side of this issue, working against the LGBTQ community’s interests instead of being the ally Nevadans deserve.”
