#AskLaxalt Why He’s Trying to Hide His Radical Anti-Choice Views

Today, the NV Dems launched a new issue page on AskLaxalt.com, focusing on Republican gubernatorial candidate Adam Laxalt’s radical anti-choice views and his desperate attempts to conceal them from Nevada voters. Yesterday, NARAL and Nevada pro-choice advocates held a press conference slamming Laxalt for his recent anti-choice comments.

Last week, Laxalt admitted in an interview he’d “look into” rolling back access to abortion in Nevada, despite an existing law that Nevadans overwhelmingly passed in 1990 guaranteeing a woman’s right to choose, causing his campaign to go into damage control.

As attorney general, Laxalt has routinely used his taxpayer-funded office to further his anti-choice agenda. He joined a U.S. Supreme Court case supporting fake clinics that discourage women from making their own health care decisions and quietly added Nevada to a lawsuit supporting an “unduly burdensome” Texas abortion ban. He also signed a letter to the U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services in support of a religious refusals rule allowing health care professionals to deny care based on moral or religious objections.

Nevada State Democratic Party spokeswoman Helen Kalla released the following statement:

“Adam Laxalt is running on an extreme anti-choice agenda that’s out of step with Nevadans’ views, the current Republican governor’s position, and a two-decade-old state law. He is a fringe radical who abuses his taxpayer-funded office to push his ideological crusade because he doesn’t trust women to make their own health care decisions. Nevada women know Laxalt’s true agenda is to rob them of their reproductive rights, which is why they’ll reject him in November.”

The NV Dems launched AskLaxalt.com to reveal Republican gubernatorial candidate Adam Laxalt’s dodges and radical views on a range of key issues. Each week, a new issue page will be rolled out to remind Nevadans just how out of step Laxalt is on issues that matter to them.
