With opposition growing by the day to the Trump Administration’s horrific policy of separating immigrant children from their parents at the border, Sen. Dean Heller is finding himself in the spotlight. This weekend, President Trump is headed to Las Vegas for a fundraiser supporting Heller’s re-election campaign, where tickets will range from $15,000 to $50,000 per couple.
Instead of doing what’s right and calling on the Trump Administration to end its family separation policy, Heller has so far tried to put the blame on Congress in a politically self-serving attempt to mislead Nevada voters and avoid criticizing the President.
And instead of actually working on a legislative solution to stop the President’s family separation policy like he said he would earlier this month, Heller has so far declined to put his name on or offer support for a bill ending these family-separation tactics at the border. No wonder President Trump is so invested in helping Dean Heller get re-elected to the Senate.
Nevada State Democratic Party spokesperson Sarah Abel released the following statement:
“Sen. Heller’s spinelessness is reaching a whole new level: He’s so afraid of speaking out against President Trump that he’s trying to blame Congress instead of the Trump Administration for this administration’s policy of separating children from parents at the border. With a major fundraiser on the horizon this weekend, it’s clear that Sen. Heller is more focused on cozying up to President Trump than standing up to him and demanding an end to this mean-spirited family separation policy.”
