June is Pride Month, when the LGBTQ community and their allies come together to highlight the progress we’ve made towards equality and raise awareness about the work that still needs to be done. But Nevada Sen. Dean Heller has seemed to follow President Trump and Vice President Pence’s lead by declining to acknowledge Pride Month over the past two weeks.
Heller has often been on the wrong side of history on LGBTQ rights during his time as a Washington politician, voting against repealing the military’s discriminatory Don’t Ask Don’t Tell policy and openly opposing marriage equality.
Nevada Democratic State Party spokesperson Sarah Abel released the following statement:
“Nevadans embrace our diversity, celebrate tolerance and inclusion, and recognize that no one should face discrimination against simply because of who they are or who they love. Sen. Dean Heller’s lack of support for Nevada’s LGBTQ community shows just how out of touch he is with our state.”
