Today, the NV Dems launched a new issue page on AskLaxalt.com, focusing on Republican gubernatorial candidate Adam Laxalt’s conflicts of interest surrounding his biggest donor, billionaire casino magnate Sheldon Adelson.
Tomorrow marks the one year anniversary of Laxalt testifying in front of the Nevada Assembly after he was caught on tape trying to get the state’s top gaming regulator to interfere in a private lawsuit involving Adelson. At the hearing, it was revealed that Laxalt was asked to recuse himself as counsel to the Gaming Control Board due to his obvious conflict of interest.
That scandal isn’t the only time Laxalt has done Adelson’s bidding at the expense of what’s best for Nevada. Laxalt has failed to stand up for Nevada’s revenue-rich, job-creating legal marijuana industry. Meanwhile, Adelson “essentially self-funded” the fight to block the 2016 ballot measure that legalized recreational marijuana. Laxalt also urged the federal government — twice — to interpret an online gaming law in a way Adelson favored — against the wishes of Republican Governor Brian Sandoval.
Nevada State Democratic Party spokesperson Helen Kalla released the following statement:
“Adam Laxalt is a special interest puppet who will throw ethics out the window and Nevadans under the bus at the behest of Sheldon Adelson and his other mega-rich donors. Laxalt is already using the attorney general’s office to do Adelson’s personal bidding. Nevadans don’t want a bought-and-paid-for stooge like Laxalt letting corporate donors run the governor’s mansion, and they deserve to know the truth about just who Laxalt takes his orders from.”
The NV Dems launched AskLaxalt.com to reveal Republican gubernatorial candidate Adam Laxalt’s dodges and radical views on a range of key issues. Each week, a new issue page will be rolled out to remind Nevadans just how out of step Laxalt is on issues that matter to them.
