Today, the NV Dems launched a new issue page on AskLaxalt.com, focusing on Republican gubernatorial candidate Adam Laxalt’s positions on immigration. As Nevada families continue to fear they may be torn from the only country they’ve ever known, Laxalt has done nothing to fight for them, instead embracing the Trump Administration’s policies that are ripping families apart and hurting Nevada’s economy.
Laxalt has ignored questions on what should be done to protect DREAMers who were brought here through no fault of their own. While Republican Governor Brian Sandoval has joined other governors to stand up for DACA, Laxalt has declined to join similar efforts by attorneys general. Laxalt has twice been tied to visits to Nevada by notorious anti-immigrant zealot Joe Arpaio, whom Nevada Republicans invited to give a keynote speech in February. In 2015, Laxalt sued to stop Pres. Obama’s executive actions on immigration, going against Sandoval, who implied he’d consider overriding Laxalt’s challenge.
Nevada State Democratic Party spokesperson Helen Kalla released the following statement:
“Nevada has one of the largest immigrant communities in the country, and Laxalt’s failure to fight for them is not just wrong, it’s hurting Nevada’s economy. It’s clear by Laxalt’s record on immigration that he prioritizes his right-wing ideology over doing what’s best for Nevada. Laxalt owes us answers on why he thinks Nevada’s immigrant families aren’t worth fighting for.”
The NV Dems launched AskLaxalt.com to reveal Republican gubernatorial candidate Adam Laxalt’s dodges and radical views on a range of key issues. Each week, a new issue page will be rolled out to remind Nevadans just how out of step Laxalt is on issues that matter to them.
