With new documents showing that Wall Street millionaire and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin’s plane travel has already cost taxpayers nearly $1 million, Republican Sen. Dean Heller is once again silent as a member of President Trump’s wealthy Cabinet racks up a stunning amount of airfare expenses on the taxpayers’ dime.
Mnuchin is a Wall Street millionaire and the controversial former CEO of OneWest Bank, where he earned the nickname ‘Foreclosure King’ for his shady practices during the financial crisis. During the confirmation process last year, Sen. Heller pretended to ask Mnuchin some tough questions before going from “watchdog to turtle” and adding “fuel to an aggressive campaign by Democrats to portray him as a Trump puppet.”
Of course, Mnuchin isn’t the first Heller-backed member of President Trump’s Cabinet who’s been under fire for his controversial excessive spending on government-funded flights. Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt has drawn criticism for his first-class flights, and former Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price was forced to resign last year over his extensive use of taxpayer-funded charter flights. And – you guessed it – Heller voted to confirm all three of them!
The Nevada State Democratic Party spokesperson Sarah Abel released the following statement:
“Sen. Heller has been silent while Secretary Mnuchin splurges on airfare expenses and another Heller-backed member of President Trump’s Cabinet takes advantage of Nevada taxpayers. After spending more than a decade in Washington, Heller’s become a spineless politician who only looks out for himself and falls in line to do what’s best for his party leaders.”
