Last night in Reno, Republican Sen. Dean Heller and gubernatorial candidate Adam Laxalt attended a Washoe GOP fundraiser headlined by Dinesh D’Souza, the well-known right-wing conspiracy theorist and “abhorrent clown.” D’Souza is a convicted felon who pled guilty in 2014 to breaking federal campaign finance law by using straw donors to make illegal political contributions.
Nevada State Democratic Party Chair William McCurdy II released the following statement in response to Heller and Laxalt campaigning with D’Souza:
“Sen. Heller and Attorney General Laxalt are so pathetically desperate to win their Republican primaries that they are actively campaigning next to an inflammatory conspiracy theorist. Their decision to legitimize and normalize a homophobic propagandist like Dinesh D’Souza goes to show how far they will go to pander to the most fringe, radical elements of the Republican Party. It’s becoming increasingly clear that Heller and Laxalt are out of touch with Nevada values and are unfit to continue serving our state.”
