Trump Attacks Nevada’s Solar Industry, Heller Declines to Stand Up for Local Jobs

Just weeks after his Administration attacked states like Nevada that have legalized marijuana, President Trump is attacking yet another major industry that is diversifying Nevada’s economy. Despite opposition from the American solar industry, the Trump administration is moving forward with a reckless plan to slap a 30 percent tariff on imported solar panels, a move that is expected to drive up prices and cause significant job losses.

Not surprisingly, GOP Sen. Dean Heller has remained silent on this issue. Just like he did with marijuana, Heller is refusing to put Nevada first and stand up against Trump. Once again, Heller is choosing to keep cozying up to the White House for self-serving political gain while Nevada businesses are being threatened and local jobs are under attack.

Nevada State Democratic Party spokesperson Sarah Abel released the following statement:

“While President Trump attacks Nevada’s diversifying economy and thousands of new good-paying local jobs in the solar industry, Sen. Heller is just standing by and letting it happen. Per usual, Dean Heller is putting party first — reminding Nevada’s working families all over again that he doesn’t have the spine to stand up for them, even when their jobs are on the line.”
