Will Laxalt Pull Endorsement After Roberson Called Democrats “Lesser Humans?”

Today, The Nevada Independent reported that Republican candidate for lieutenant governor Michael Roberson referred to Democrats as “lesser humans” during a speech at a GOP event in Eureka County on Friday evening.

“Even though we don’t like Democrats — they’re lesser humans, frankly,” Roberson says in an audio recording obtained during the event. “They’re good people, they just, they’re misguided.”

Nevada attorney general and Republican candidate for governor Adam Laxalt has endorsed Roberson’s bid for lieutenant governor, calling him “a leader on many fronts.”

Nevada State Democratic Party spokesperson Helen Kalla released the following statement:

“Roberson’s comment was disgusting and offensive, and Laxalt must immediately withdraw his endorsement. If Laxalt stays silent on this — as he often does on many issues — he implicitly condones Roberson’s inexcusable comment. No one who believes that those who don’t share their political beliefs are ‘lesser humans’ deserves to occupy elected office.”
