NV Dems Call on Nevada Officials to Stand Up to Trump Administration Overreach on Legal Marijuana

Today, Nevada State Democratic Party spokesperson Helen Kalla released the following statement on U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ decision to reverse the Cole Memo, an Obama-era policy that provided states that have legalized marijuana protection from interference by federal prosecutors.

“Attorney General Sessions’ decision to subvert the will of Nevada voters is a misguided ideological crusade that would place an enormous burden on our state’s economy, kill jobs, and jeopardize desperately-needed education funding. Nevada’s leaders — including Republican attorney general and gubernatorial hopeful Adam Laxalt — must clearly and firmly commit to standing up against any meddlesome attempt by the Trump administration to infringe upon our state’s right to grow our economy as our voters see fit.”

Nevada’s well-regulated recreational marijuana industry has already provided substantial benefits to the state, creating thousands of well-paying jobs and generating nearly $20 million in tax revenue, millions of which go to the state’s primary public education fund.
