Yesterday afternoon, Senator Dean Heller’s high school buddy Congressman Mark Amodei signed on to a discharge petition to force the DREAM Act to the House floor for a vote, saying “it is impossible to defend doing nothing.”
Senator Heller is now the only member of Nevada’s Congressional delegation who does not support passing a clean version of the DREAM Act. In September, Trump announced his cruel decision to end the Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program and deport DREAMers.
Nevada State Democratic Party spokesperson Sarah Abel released the following statement:
“If Senator Heller has an ounce of integrity left, he will join Congressman Amodei and the rest of Nevada’s delegation in full support of the DREAM Act. The 13,000 DREAMers who call Nevada home, their families, and their loved ones all need a Senator who will fight for them – no matter the political repercussions. Senator Heller’s continued cowardly silence on the DREAM Act shows that he can’t be trusted to stand up against President Trump or stand up for our DREAMers, and Nevadans will hold him accountable.”
