NV Dems Chair Statement on Baseless GOP Effort to Recall Senator Joyce Woodhouse

Nevada State Democratic Party Chair William McCurdy II released the following statement in response to the news that failed former Republican Assemblyman and fetish film star Stephen Silberkraus and GOP Senate Minority Leader Michael Roberson – who lost a Congressional primary and the State Senate majority last year – submitted signatures today in a baseless attempt to recall State Senator Joyce Woodhouse (District 5).

“From the beginning, this Republican-led recall campaign has been plagued by shady and deceitful tactics. Out-of-state canvassers have come to Nevada and threatened, harassed and blatantly lied to voters in Senate District 5 in an effort to overturn the clear result of the 2016 election. Senator Roberson continues to degrade himself and undermine the will of voters for his own political gain, a potent reminder that he must not be promoted to higher office in 2018. Joyce Woodhouse is a tireless champion for working families, a formidable advocate for public education and a model public servant. This partisan attempt to steal Joyce’s Senate seat is disgusting, and Nevadans will be with her every step of the way as she continues to fight this malicious recall scam.”

Prominent Nevada Republicans are speaking out against the GOP-led recall effort. Republican Governor Brian Sandoval blasted the recall effort today, saying there was no legitimate reason behind it and that it will set a “dangerous precedent.” Former Nevada GOP Chair Amy Tarkanian called it “a play for power” last week, and conservative Republican Assemblyman Ira Hansen said recalls are “not warranted” here and that fairness should trump partisanship.
