Yesterday in Arizona, President Trump threatened to “close down our government” unless Congress funds his offensive border wall… the one that Mexico apparently isn’t paying for anymore. Without a new funding bill, the federal government will shut down on October 1. Reminder: Republicans currently control Congress and the White House.
“President Trump’s new BFF Dean Heller still hasn’t taken a position on Trump’s proposed border wall with Mexico or his reckless plan to hold the government hostage over wasteful border wall funding,” said Nevada State Democratic Party spokesperson Stewart Boss. “Senator Heller will soon have to decide whether he wants to be fiscally responsible with taxpayer dollars or appease the extreme anti-immigrant wing of Trump’s Republican Party. With a key budget deadline coming up and a possible shutdown looming, Nevada voters deserve a straight answer from Senator Heller.”
In 2013, Dean Heller supported the Republican government shutdown that cost the economy $24 billion, and then he voted against the budget plan to reopen the federal government.
While Dean Heller has yet to weigh in on the border wall, his record in Washington includes voting to defund DACA, opposing the DREAM Act and supporting an end to birthright citizenship for “anchor babies” (his words).
