Senator Dean Heller Silent on Trump’s Nixonian Firing of FBI Director During Russia Probe

Las Vegas, NV – President Trump’s White House today announced the firing of FBI Director James Comey, a Nixon-inspired move to thwart the FBI’s ongoing probe into dangerous connections between the Russian government and the Trump campaign.

In response to Republican Senator Dean Heller’s silence, Nevada State Democratic Party spokesperson Stewart Boss released the following statement:

“Senator Heller’s deafening silence on the clear need for an independent investigation into the Trump campaign’s contacts with Russia amounts to a stunning display of moral cowardice. The only parallel to this stunning decision to fire the FBI Director while he’s investigating the White House is President Nixon firing the Watergate special prosecutor in 1973. We need a separate 9/11-style Commission and special prosecutor to carry out an impartial investigation – and Nevada needs a new Senator who has the backbone to stand up to Trump’s disturbing abuse of power.”
