Reno, NV – Nevada State Democratic Party spokesman Stewart Boss released the following statement today on the announcement that Republican Senator Dean Heller, who has been in hiding for more than 3 months, has finally agreed to hold a town hall in Reno as long as Congressman Mark Amodei can run interference for him:
“This is a big victory for Northern Nevadans who applied pressure online, made phone calls and showed up regularly at protests demanding an opportunity to ask questions of their United States Senator at a public town hall. Hopefully this will be a real town hall where Senator Heller doesn’t hide behind Congressman Amodei and doesn’t lie to his constituents in response to tough questions.
“Despite Senator Heller’s pleading for a town hall with no booing, his constituents have a lot to be unhappy about: his numerous votes to dismantle the Affordable Care Act, his continued support for defunding Planned Parenthood, his recent deciding votes for Betsy DeVos and against health clinics that rely on Title X funding, his weak and ineffective opposition to Yucca Mountain, and his 100 percent record voting for Donald Trump’s agenda. We look forward to watching him explain those positions!
“More than two-thirds of Heller’s constituents live and work in Clark County, and residents of Southern Nevada also deserve an opportunity to voice their concerns directly in a public town hall format.”
Senator Heller’s town hall with Congressman Amodei is scheduled for Monday, April 17, 9-11 a.m. at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center, Room C1.
