Las Vegas, NV – The Nevada State Democratic Party is sad to report that Naomi Millisor, our longtime Office Manager, has passed away. Newly elected Nevada State Democratic Party Chair William McCurdy II and former Chairs Roberta Lange and Sam Lieberman issued statements today celebrating Naomi’s many contributions to the state party over the years.
Chair William McCurdy II: “The Nevada State Democratic Party has lost a legend. Naomi fought the good fight for so many years, and it’s hard to imagine anyone more dedicated or dependable for our cause as progressives. Naomi’s infectious energy and wry sense of humor will be impossible to replace at our front desk. Our hearts go out to her family and loved ones at this difficult time.”
Former Chair Roberta Lange: “Naomi was the core of our office and our Democratic Party for so many years. She always had everyone’s back. Naomi was a fearless fighter her entire life for women’s rights, and it breaks my heart that she won’t be here to see Nevada ratify the Equal Rights Amendment. She was an incredible coach and role model for so many of our staff, especially the women in the office. Her job was so much bigger than being our office manager because she was an activist at heart, someone who showed up at every club event and committee meeting she possibly could. We will miss her so much.”
Former Chair Sam Lieberman: “Naomi was passionately committed to her family, and the Democratic Party was an extension of that family. She was direct, she was bold, and she was sassy – you always knew where you stood with Naomi. Throughout her decades of service, Naomi motivated activists, mentored staff and mandated every Democrat she encountered to give their all for the party. She was a lifelong advocate for women’s rights, full equality and diversity. Rather than mourning her, I hope we can all celebrate Naomi’s life and legacy by carrying on the work she was so obsessed with – electing Democrats for years to come to keep making progress and moving Nevada forward.”
Naomi has been the Nevada State Democratic Party’s Office Manager since 1999. She has been a member of the Clark County and Nevada State Central Committees since 1974. She was elected to serve as Treasurer for the state party from 1986 to 1990. Naomi was the Office Manager for the re-election campaign of Governor Mike O’Callaghan in 1974, as well as for Bob Coffin when he ran for Congress in 1986. She was elected as a Delegate to the 1984 Democratic National Convention, and she also served as the Nevada Coordinator for the National Organization for Women. Before working in politics, Naomi was employed for 20 years with the State of Nevada and was a proud union member of AFSCME.
