Hiding Heller: Nevada’s Republican Senator Kicks Off 2018 Election Cycle with Disappearing Act

Las Vegas, NV – Republican Senator Dean Heller has kicked off the first few months of his re-election effort with a remarkable disappearing act — he avoids taking positions on major issues, refuses town hall invitations, and passes on interview requests. Even his staff regularly declines to comment for reporters and can’t figure out how to let constituents leave voicemails.

“Senator Heller is a lazy, ineffective Senator with no economic agenda, no justification for defunding Planned Parenthood, and no plan for protecting Nevadans who have life-saving health care because of the Affordable Care Act,” said Nevada State Democratic Party spokesperson Stewart Boss. “Dean Heller is trying to go into hiding because he doesn’t have good answers for reporters or his constituents.”

You don’t have to take our word for it that Heller’s hiding – see for yourself:

The Hill: “Nevada’s Dean Heller, the most vulnerable GOP senator up for reelection, has yet to comment on the House bill even as pressure mounts on him from both sides of the aisle.”

Daily Kos: Nevada Sen. Dean Heller is too much of a coward to comment on Trumpcare

The Nevada Independent: “Sandoval, who attended Trump’s congressional address with Sen. Dean Heller, said the two discussed health care but wouldn’t say if Heller committed to supporting a bill that would protect health insurance for the hundreds of thousands of Nevadans who gained insurance under expansion of the health care law. ‘You have to ask him,’ he said. ‘I think that’s a question that he needs to answer, not me.’”

Ralston Reports – Morning Flash: “By the way, Heller’s refusal to talk to the media is matched by his “communications team,” which also routinely ignores media requests even though that is their ONLY taxpayer-funded job.”

Las Vegas Sun: “Patel on Tuesday did not provide responses to emailed questions.”

KLAS Las Vegas: Steve Sebelius: “We’d love to ask Senator Heller about that and a bunch of other issues, but his staff has failed to return multiple emails from Politics NOW.”

Las Vegas Review-Journal: “The groups have said Heller’s office phones are consistently busy, he has not responded to constituent requests, and concerned citizens have been blocked from visiting his office in Reno… As Heller left the event, a protester asked him why he would not hold a town hall. Heller did not respond, got into the back of an SUV and left.”

AP: Protesters jeer Nevada congressmen over public availability

KLAS Las Vegas: Steve Sebelius: “Well, we’ve been working to have a member of the Nevada Congressional delegation on this show every single week, including Senator Dean Heller. But Heller’s team has not made him available for us.”

The Nevada Independent: “Calls to Heller’s office by The Nevada Independent on Thursday were picked up by a staff member, but a spokesman for the senator was unable to speak and did not return an email seeking comment on the number of calls or the voicemail recording.”

Reno Gazette-Journal: Having trouble trying to call Dean Heller? So is everyone else
