Las Vegas, NV – According to an interview today in The Nevada Independent, Governor Brian Sandoval has made clear he will not support any GOP efforts to roll back the Affordable Care Act’s Medicaid expansion, which has helped more than 300,000 low-income Nevadans access health care.
Meanwhile, Republican Senator Dean Heller has been silent. When asked about whether Heller shares his views, Sandoval’s response was: “You have to ask him. I think that’s a question that he needs to answer, not me.”
“Since the announcement of the radical Republican health care plan that would roll back Medicaid expansion, Senator Heller has been conspicuously quiet and unwilling to commit to protecting hundreds of thousands of Nevadans who are now able to access health insurance,” said Nevada State Democratic Party spokesperson Stewart Boss. “Senator Heller should stop testing the political waters and do the right thing by joining Governor Sandoval and four of his fellow Republican Senators to denounce this reckless bill that jeopardizes Medicaid expansion. So far, Senator Heller has been a consistent rubber stamp for Trump’s Cabinet and agenda. Unless he speaks out, Nevadans can safely assume that Dean Heller’s silence indicates his tacit support for this disastrous health care plan.”
