Las Vegas, NV – Today, Nevada State Democratic Party Chair Roberta Lange released the following statement on Nevada Senator Dean Heller’s silence on Donald Trump’s choice of Steve Bannon for White House chief strategist and Alabama Senator Jeff Sessions for U.S. Attorney General:
“Last week, Senator Dean Heller said he was “excited” to partner with President-elect Trump. Since then, Donald Trump has hired a champion of the alt-right movement to devise White House strategy and plans to nominate a racist Senator from Alabama to be the next Attorney General. Steve Bannon, who will now sit 25 feet from the Oval Office, is the executive chairman of Breitbart News Network, an online platform for white supremacy and misogyny. Jeff Sessions is one of Washington’s most extreme anti-immigrant politicians, and his long history of racist comments are so controversial that a Republican-controlled Senate committee blocked him from a federal judgeship in the 1980s.
“The xenophobic values that Bannon and Sessions have embraced are deeply disturbing. As Donald Trump fills his administration with these disgraceful choices, Senator Heller owes Nevadans an explanation for his excitement about Trump’s presidency.”
