Catherine Cortez Masto, Ruben Kihuen, Astrid Silva Launched GOTV Kickoff to Respond to Anti-Immigrant Senator Jeff Sessions Campaigning in Las Vegas for Trump

Las Vegas, NV – Former Nevada Attorney General and candidate for U.S. Senate Catherine Cortez Masto, State Senator and Congressional District 4 candidate Ruben Kihuen, and Nevada DREAMers Astrid Silva and Victoria Ruiz hosted a canvass kickoff today in Las Vegas in response to Senator Jeff Sessions campaigning for Donald Trump in Nevada today. Sessions is one of the country’s most extreme anti-immigrant politicians and has been called “one of Washington’s leading nativists.”

“It is so encouraging to see so many people canvassing today and making their voices heard by voting early,” said Catherine Cortez Masto. “We are a nation of immigrants and we must continue the American tradition of embracing our diversity. Unfortunately, Donald Trump, Congressman Joe Heck, and Senator Jeff Sessions are actively working against this tradition. As Donald Trump spews hateful rhetoric about immigrants, Heck and Sessions are working to make his anti-immigrant policies a reality. Heck and Sessions do not support comprehensive immigration reform and both sued the President over DAPA and DACA, which would tear millions of families apart. We need people in Washington who will put Nevada families before Donald Trump.”

“The record number of people who already voted early are showing Donald Trump, Senator Jeff Sessions, and my opponent Congressman Cresent Hardy that their anti-immigrant rhetoric and divisive policies are not welcome in Nevada,” said Ruben Kihuen. “As Donald Trump made offensive and denigrating comments towards Latino immigrants – and my opponent Congressman Hardy proudly stood by him – Latinos in Nevada were registering their friends and neighbors to vote. This November we will show Donald Trump and Cresent Hardy that Latino immigrants are not only hardworking, contributing members of society, but that we vote, too.”

“Today, Nevada showed Donald Trump and Senator Jeff Sessions that their bigoted, anti-immigrant policies will not be tolerated in Nevada,” said DREAMer and immigration activist Astrid Silva. “The best way to combat this kind of hatred is to knock on doors and get voters to the polls. In one week, Nevada will show Donald Trump and Senator Sessions that we are a proud state full of immigrants by electing Hillary Clinton, Catherine Cortez Masto and Ruben Kihuen to represent the real values of Nevada – passing comprehensive immigration reform and keeping families together by defending DAPA and DACA.”
