Hardy: “It’s like picking jelly beans. Some jelly beans you like, others you don’t. Then it’s whether you like more jelly beans than jelly beans you dislike.”
Las Vegas, NV – In a new story posted today by the Las Vegas Sun, Tea Party Congressman Cresent Hardy defended his votes to defund President Obama’s executive actions on immigration with a controversial and distasteful analogy: picking jelly beans. The offensive rhetoric bears a striking similarity to Donald Trump Jr.’s recent disgusting comparison of Syrian refugees to poisoned Skittles.
Here’s Hardy’s full quote: “It’s like picking jelly beans. Some jelly beans you like, others you don’t. Then it’s whether you like more jelly beans than jelly beans you dislike.”
“Jelly beans are candy, and immigrants are people,” said Nevada State Democratic Party spokesman Stewart Boss. “This is an inappropriate analogy. At a certain point, repeatedly writing off your offensive comments as ‘straight talk’ doesn’t fly with voters. Congressman Hardy should apologize for comparing his mean-spirited votes to tear hard-working immigrant families apart to selecting what flavor jelly beans he wants to eat.”
