Las Vegas, NV – Congressman Joe Heck reallllly wants to pass comprehensive immigration reform. He really does, he promises. But the reason he hasn’t been able to get it done is everyone’s fault but his own. First Heck blamed immigrationactivists in Nevada, and now he’s blaming Harry Reid and Democrats in Congress for not passing comprehensiveimmigration reform when they had control of both Houses in the Congress. And yet, now that Republicans have controlled Congress for almost two years, where is Congressman Heck’s outrage?
Congressman Heck has been in Washington for almost six years and never introduced any kind of meaningfulimmigration reform. Instead, let’s look at Congressman Heck’s immigration votes in Washington:
- Supported an amendment to expedite the deportation of undocumented youth
- Voted to defund DACA four times, putting thousands of Nevada DREAMers at risk of deportation
- Signed onto a lawsuit to end DAPA and tear apart thousands of Nevada families
- Does not support bipartisan comprehensive immigration reform
“This is another case of Congressman Joe Heck saying one thing in Nevada and turning around and doing the exact opposite when he gets to Washington,” said Mairead Lynn, spokesperson for the Nevada Democratic Party. “Congressman Heck is playing the blame game because he knows his record of consistent anti-immigrant votes in Washington won’t fly here in Nevada. Nevadans want someone who will stand up, take responsibility and make good on their promises. Congressman Heck is just another politician who will say anything to get elected.”
