Heck spent almost $400,000 of taxpayer money on “franked” mail
Las Vegas, NV – Yesterday, new reports surfaced of Congressman Heck wasting hundreds of thousands of dollars in taxpayer funded mail pieces to promote himself. Congressman Heck has spent his time in Washington pretending to care about reducing government spending, but when given the opportunity, Heck wasted almost $400,000 of taxpayer money on “franked” mail pieces to constituents. Congressman Heck spent more than any other House member running for U.S. Senate. Franked mail has been criticized by watchdog organizations as “free advertising” for candidates, with the taxpayers footing the bill. Heck is one of the top spenders on franked mail in the U.S. House of Representatives.
“Congressman Heck hypocritically claims that he’ll look out for Nevada taxpayers in the Senate, but when he went to Washington, he wasted almost $400,000 of taxpayer money on mail pieces about himself,” said Mairead Lynn, spokesperson for the Nevada State Democratic Party. “Congressman Heck makes promises to Nevada voters, but turns around and helps only himself when he is in Washington. Nevadans need someone who will work across the aisle and cut through Washington dysfunction, not use taxpayer funded perks for politicians to further his political career.”
