81st Anniversary of Social Security Reminds Nevadans Congressman Heck Called Program a “Pyramid Scheme”

Congressman Heck has called Social Security a “pyramid scheme” that “isn’t working” and wants to subject seniors’ financial security to the whims of Wall Street

Las Vegas, NV – This Sunday, August 14, marks the 81st year since Social Security was signed into law, legislation that has provided Americans with deserved and earned financial security. Yet instead of ensuring Americans can retire with dignity, Republicans like Congressman Heck want to subject seniors’ retirement security to the whims of Wall Street and privatize the program. Congressman Heck has even called Social Security a “pyramid scheme” that “isn’t working.”

“For over eight decades, Social Security has ensured hardworking Americans can retire with the financial security they have earned – but Congressman Heck’s scheme to privatize it would threaten that security,” said Sarah Zukowski, spokesperson for the Nevada State Democratic Party. “Despite what Congressman Heck thinks, American seniors’ security is not a pyramid scheme and should not left to the Wall Street firms that caused the financial crisis. Contrary to what Congressman Heck has said, Social Security is working – it’s Congressman Heck and the politicians in Washington who aren’t working for Nevada families.”
