Las Vegas, NV – Congresswoman Dina Titus and Nevada leaders set the record straight today ahead of reality TV star and bigot-in-chief Donald Trump’s first general election visit to Las Vegas tomorrow. Rep. Titus was joined at Nevada State Democratic Party HQ by Hispanic Legislative Caucus Chair Assemblywoman Olivia Diaz, Masjid Ibrahim Director Dr. Aslam Abdullah, Nevada Democratic Veterans and Military Families Caucus Treasurer Steven Horner, and Carmen Llarull, a guest room attendant at the Trump Hotel Las Vegas where Trump is fighting the efforts of hotel workers to unionize.
Donald Trump’s history of misogynistic insults towards women, his racist attacks on the Latino community, his anti-Muslim bigotry, his lip service to our nation’s veterans and his disrespect for workers have disqualified him from being our next President.
Congresswoman Dina Titus: “It’s clear that Donald Trump does not embrace all of his fellow Americans. Whether it’s Muslims or Mexican immigrants, Donald Trump has showed his true colors — and with women, we’ve seen the same. I don’t know what they taught about women’s issues at Trump University, but this election cycle it is clear he needs a lesson on gender equality. Donald Trump does not represent or reflect the diverse population of District 1. We are the face of Nevada. We are not going to let him stifle us, deport us, discriminate against us, or deny us. That is why this election is so important.”
Carmen Llarull, Trump Hotel Las Vegas guest room attendant: “As a worker at Trump Hotel, I’m here on behalf of all my co-workers to send Donald Trump a message – we deserve to have a fair union contract. It’s been six months since we won our union election, and we want a contract to have the fair wages, job security, and good health benefits that other workers at other union casinos on the Las Vegas Strip have. Mr. Trump says he wants to make this country great again, but he should start right at his own hotel with his employees who are fighting for dignity and respect.”
Assemblywoman Olivia Diaz, Hispanic Legislative Caucus Chair: “In Donald Trump’s version of America, this Latino family – my family – isn’t really American. Trump started his campaign by calling Mexican immigrants “rapists” and criminals and said they brought disease into this country. He could not be more wrong – and yet every day since, Trump finds a way to denigrate or demean someone else. Enough.”
Dr. Aslam Abdullah, Masjid Ibrahim Director: “The truth is that Donald Trump has no real national security plans except fear-mongering against Muslim Americans. The fact that Trump reacted to the terrorist attack in Orlando by doubling down on his inflammatory anti-Muslim rhetoric, his discriminatory policy of banning an entire religion from entering the U.S. and his push for surveillance of mosques shows that he is dangerously divisive and unfit to be our next Commander-in-Chief.”
Steven Horner, Nevada Democratic Veterans and Military Families Caucus Treasurer: “Donald Trump has made an effort to belittle our military, veterans and the families of those who have served. Our veterans deserve the very best after their service, whether it’s health care, education or housing — but Donald Trump says he wants to privatize the VA and that he was against the Post-9/11 GI Bill. And as a Vietnam War veteran, I believe Trump’s repeated comparisons between serving in Vietnam and contracting an STD are a shameful affront to anyone who has risked their life to defend this great nation. It’s more proof that he has no business being our next President.”
