Las Vegas, NV – Today, Eighth Judicial District Court Judge Ronald J. Israel dismissed a lawsuit against the Nevada State Democratic Party disputing internal party election procedures. In response to this decision, the State Party released the following statement:
“This frivolous lawsuit was an unnecessary distraction from our shared goals as Democrats, and we’re pleased the court dismissed it today. In his decision, the judge disputed essentially every argument from the plaintiffs, denied their request for a preliminary injunction, and agreed that the State Party had not done anything wrong in setting rules and deadlines for our internal elections. The judge determined that the State Party’s procedures, notice, and nominations processes were entirely fair and appropriate. As we said all along, this lawsuit was purely political and in no way based in state law.
“Now that this issue has been resolved, we look forward to moving forward and coming together to have a smooth, efficiently-run State Convention this weekend. We are an inclusive, big-tent party, and we are glad to have supporters of both Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders running for our Executive Committee. We must unite as Democrats so we can focus our energy and attention on keeping a dangerous, racist, misogynistic billionaire like Donald Trump out of the White House.”
