Las Vegas, NV – As Donald Trump headed to Capitol Hill today for meetings with Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell, Nevada Republicans are happily falling in linebehind Trump and planning to push his divisive, dangerous agenda in Congress. Trump’s primary victory is no hostile takeover of the Republican Party – it’s the culmination of the GOP’s long-term strategy of fear-mongering, discrimination and trickle-down economics.
That’s why Nevada Republicans have declared their unwavering support for Trump in 2016. In the Senate race, Congressman Heck – already a rubber stamp for Washington Republicans – and his primary opponent Sharron Angle have both lined up behind Trump as the GOP nominee. In CD3 and CD4, conservative businessmanDanny Tarkanian, Republican Senate boss Michael Roberson and accidental Congressman Cresent Hardy are all aboard the Trump Train. And, despite the circus distractions, these Republican candidates are all pushing the same anti-worker, anti-immigrant, anti-woman policy agenda as Trump.
“Donald Trump’s ugly and divisive campaign is appalling, but today’s Capitol Hill meetings are a reminder that Republicans running for office in Nevada are just as bad as Trump on the issues,” said Nevada State Democratic Party Chair Roberta Lange. “These spineless Republican politicians have knowingly embraced a racist, misogynistic, anti-worker bully to occupy the White House, and they all share his extreme political agenda. Democrats are unified in the belief that this reckless, out-of-touch billionaire lacks the temperament and judgment to be our Commander-in-Chief, and we’re going to hold Trump and his supporters accountable in November.”
