Las Vegas, NV – Today, the Supreme Court is hearing arguments for United States v. Texas to determine the legality of the Obama Administration’s 2014 Executive Actions on immigration, which includes the Deferred Action for Parents of Americans and Lawful Permanent Residents (DAPA) and expanded Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA). Last month, House Republicans, including Congressman Heck, filed an amicus brief with the Supreme Court supporting the anti-immigrant lawsuit.
The hearing serves as a reminder of the anti-immigrant views shared by Congressman Heck and his Primary opponent, Sharron Angle. Both Angle and Congressman Heck oppose President Obama’s executive actions to keep families together. They also both oppose comprehensive immigration reform and want to repeal birthright citizenship.
“Congressman Heck and Sharron Angle support policies that would tear thousands of Nevadan immigrant families apart,” said Sarah Zukowski, spokesperson for the Nevada State Democratic Party. “The current case before the Supreme Court is just another example of Republican extremists like Congressman Heck and Sharron Angle choosing partisan politics over the needs of Nevada families.”
