Las Vegas, NV – On Saturday, Governor Brian Sandoval decided to endorse Ohio Governor John Kasich and become a national co-chair for his presidential campaign. No, this isn’t a joke, Kasich is still actively running for President… and he only needs to win 138 percent of the remaining delegates to become the GOP nominee. Sounds promising. If you never knew he was a candidate, we’ll forgive you – Kasich basically skipped campaigning in Nevada before finishing last in the state’s GOP caucus.
Sandoval’s endorsement came the day after Kasich insultingly told a student concerned about rape on college campuses, “Don’t go to parties where there’s a lot of alcohol.” Lovely. Kasich is a former Lehman Brothers banker and extreme anti-choice conservative who as governor signed a bill to defund Planned Parenthood and has slashed food stamps while pushing for more tax cuts for the rich.
Kasich also supports reopening Yucca Mountain and turning Nevada into a nuclear waste dump. Just last month, Sandoval toldKSNV’s Jeff Gillan that he was “still evaluating the candidates” and looking to learn more about where they stand on “Nevada-specific issues” – like Yucca Mountain in particular. Some evaluation…
It’s worth noting that Kasich still somehow trails Florida Senator Marco Rubio (the failed candidate who dropped out over a month ago) in terms of delegates. This new endorsement, after Sandoval caucused for Rubio, is just a desperate attempt to distract from Sandoval’s repeated and unequivocal commitment to support the Republican Party’s nominee for President – even if that means getting behind reality TV star and bigot-in-chief Donald Trump. Sad!
