NV Dems Announce Locations, Guidelines for At-Large Precinct Caucuses on Las Vegas Strip

Las Vegas, NV – Recognizing the unique 24/7 economy in Nevada and the burden it would place on shift workers – many of whom are minorities – who work weekends and have difficulty getting on and off the Las Vegas Strip corridor, the Nevada State Democratic Party will once again host At-Large Precincts for our First in the West presidential caucuses on Saturday, February 20. These locations, which were first set up for the 2008 caucuses, are designed specifically to accommodate shift workers who work during and within one hour of the caucus and cannot return home to caucus in their home precinct in order to participate. These locations are in addition to more than 200 neighborhood precinct caucus locations across the state.

There will be six Strip locations for 2016:

  • New York-New York
  • Caesars Palace
  • Rio
  • Paris
  • Harrah’s
  • Wynn Resort

The Nevada State Democratic Party is committed to encouraging as much participation as possible in our presidential precinct caucuses. At-large Precincts are open to all shift workers within a 2.5-mile radius of an At-Large Precinct location – union workers, nonunion workers, construction workers, gas station attendants, restaurant workers and others.

Employee Guidelines: Interested Nevada shift workers can sign up online to attend an At-Large Precinct caucus.

  • Employees are responsible for requesting time to participate these caucuses from their employer under the process outlined by management. Deadlines to request time to participate will vary by employer, and some employers may require up to 10 days notice for participation.
  • Shift workers will be required to bring their Employer ID card or badge to their assigned At-Large Precinct caucus.
  • Shift workers will sign a declaration stating that they could not attend their home Precinct Caucus because they worked during or within one hour of the designated caucus start time.

Presidential Campaign Guidelines: Presidential campaigns must abide by the rules and regulations set by each individual property regarding campaigning and/or contacting employees on property.

  • Under no circumstances are presidential campaigns allowed to campaign in the back of the house of any property prior to or during the At-Large Precinct caucuses on Saturday, February 20.
  • Presidential campaigns are limited to three staffers or volunteers at each At-Large location on Caucus Day.
