Las Vegas, NV – In advance of Nevada’s First in the West presidential caucuses on February 20th, 2,200 energized Democrats rallied in Las Vegas tonight to hear from Democratic candidates Hillary Clinton, Martin O’Malley and Bernie Sanders at the Nevada State Democratic Party’s “Battle Born/Battleground” First in the West Caucus Dinner.
Nevada State Democratic Party Chair Roberta Lange released the following statement upon conclusion of the event:
“We are excited that 2,200 Nevada Democrats rallied tonight to hear from our 2016 Democratic candidates for President and learn about our upcoming First in the West caucuses on February 20th. You could feel the enthusiasm in the room. Our caucuses will play a critical role in selecting the Democratic nominee, and, subsequently, the next President of the United States. With our growing Latino, African American, and AAPI populations, as well as the strength or organized labor here, no other state in our country reflects the growing diversity of our party and the United States as a whole than Nevada.
“Tonight we heard from three extremely qualified and talented candidates – and a year from now one of them is going to be our next President. In contrast to the comprehensive plans we heard tonight to grow the middle class and ensure economic opportunity for everyone, not just the wealthy, the Republican candidates continue to follow the lead of their frontrunner Donald Trump. Whether it’s Trump, Ted Cruz, or Marco Rubio, all of the Republicans running for President want to take us back to the same failed policies that crashed our economy and sent thousands of Nevadans to the unemployment line. The Republican candidates want to privatize Social Security, repeal birthright citizenship and oppose comprehensive immigration reform. And they all want to repeal the Affordable Care Act and once again allow private insurance companies to discriminate against people with pre-existing conditions and support reckless restrictions on a woman’s right to choose. Tonight we saw a clear choice between Democrats committed to expanding the middle class and Republicans committed to putting their billionaire campaign donors ahead of working families.
“I would like to thank Hillary Clinton, Martin O’Malley and Bernie Sanders for joining us tonight. I’d also like to thank our very own Senator Harry Reid for his pivotal leadership in earning our early state status and in ensuring this dinner was a success. Most importantly, I’d like to thank all of our attendees tonight who are working hard to help us run a successful caucus on February 20th. With their hard work, on February 20th we will lay the groundwork to win Nevada for the Democratic nominee for President, elect Catherine Cortez Masto to the United States Senate, re-elect Dina Titus and send more Democrats to join her in Congress, and take back control of the Nevada legislature.”
Also speaking at tonight’s event were U.S. Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid, all four Democratic candidates for Congressional District 4, Congresswoman Dina Titus, and former Nevada Attorney General and U.S. Senate candidate Catherine Cortez Masto. At the event, Nevada Democrats formally unveiled Caucus Express, a new online pre-registration tool that allows caucus goers to save time with an express check-in at their caucus location on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. PT.
