While Some Republicans Run Away From Birther Group, Congressman Heck Headlines Convention Today

Las Vegas, NV – Is Sharron Angle really running against Congressman Heck, or is she actually just running his campaign?  Today, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported that some Republicans running for Senate were “distancing” themselves from the organization sponsoring a birther conference in Las Vegas today. Were any of those Republicans Congressman Heck, you ask?  Of course not.  In fact, the ethically-challenged Congressman is joining notable birthers Congressman Steve King and Wayne Allyn Root in headlining the birther convention.

The organization sponsoring the conference – called the Center for Security Policy – was cited by GOP frontrunner Donald Trump in his press release calling for the discriminatory ban on all Muslim travel to the United States.

The organization’s founder, Frank Gaffney, has a long history of questioning whether President Obama was born in the United States. Other speakers at the event include Congressman Heck’s anti-immigrant and birther colleague, Congressman Steve King, renowned local birther Wayne Allyn Root, and GOP Presidential candidates Rick Santorum, Ben Carson, Ted Cruz, and Carly Fiorina.

“While some Republicans can’t run away fast enough from Donald Trump’s favorite fringe birther group, ethically-challenged Congressman Heck is headlining its convention today,” said Nevada State Democratic Party spokesperson Zach Hudson. “It’s a telling sign of who Congressman Heck is fighting for in Washington that he would headline this convention that even far-right Republicans think is too extreme.”
