Rubio Slams the Door on Immigration Reform, Would Get Rid of DACA Immigration Protections

Las Vegas, NV – This morning on Good Morning America, Florida Senator Marco Rubio officially slammed the door on comprehensive immigration reform. Asked why he had supported immigration reform efforts and then caved, Rubio responded: “Yeah, because it can’t pass. We’re not going to pass comprehensive immigration reform in this country.

Then, just hours after saying saying that “we’re not going to pass comprehensive immigration reform,” Rubio declared that as President, he would end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program if Congress fails to pass immigration reform.

Rubio told reporters this afternoon, “We’re not going to extend the program. DACA is going to end, and the ideal way for it to end is that it’s replaced by a reformed system that creates an alternative, but if it doesn’t, it will end.” DACA focuses immigration enforcement away from young, undocumented immigrants who came to the United States through no fault of their own.

“From joining Tea Party extremists to shut down immigration reform efforts in Congress to promising to deport hundreds of thousands of DREAMers, Marco Rubio has gone out of his way today to prove why Nevada families can’t trust him on immigration,” said Nevada Democratic Party spokesman Stewart Boss.
