Roberson “cut his political chops as an aide to former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay”
Las Vegas, NV – Nevada State Democratic Party spokesperson Zach Hudson released the following statement on former Tom DeLay operative and GOP Senate boss Michael Roberson announcing his candidacy for Congress:
“While working for disgraced former Congressman Tom DeLay might have taught Republican Senate boss Michael Roberson how to bring partisan, Washington-style politics to the Nevada legislature, the special interests’ favorite legislator will soon find that running for Congress is a lot tougher than ramming through legislation to line the pockets of his campaign donors.
“The reality is: Republican Senate boss Michael Roberson voted three times against increasing the minimum wage, supports storing nuclear waste at Yucca Mountain, denied women suffer from pay discrimination, led the charge to eliminate the minimum wage for construction workers, supports ‘personhood’ legislation that restricts access to contraception, and sponsored a bill that would have allowed domestic abusers and stalkers to carry firearms. Under boss Roberson’s leadership, Senate Republicans proposed repealing the minimum wage from Nevada’s constitution, tried to gut overtime pay for Nevada workers, and killed legislation to help military families afford childcare.
“Michael Roberson isn’t in Kansas anymore — and should he emerge from the Republican primary, we look forward to providing the voters of the third congressional district a clear choice between a Democrat committed to expanding the middle class, and boss Roberson, who is committed to expanding the wallets of his wealthy campaign donors.”
