Statement on Today’s Equal Pay Vote in the Nevada Senate

Las Vegas, NV – Nevada State Democratic Party Chair Roberta Lange released the following statement on today’s vote on “equal pay” legislation in the Nevada Senate:

“Michael Roberson and Senate Republicans did everything they could to ensure this bill was as weak and toothless as possible because they care more about protecting the bottom line of big corporations than ensuring women receive a fair day’s wage for a fair day’s work.  Just like when they voted against increasing the minimum wage and voted to cut the minimum wage for construction workers, Roberson and his Republican colleagues today stood with the special interests and big corporations who fund their campaigns at the expense of Nevada’s middle class.

“I applaud Senate Democrats’ efforts to help achieve paycheck fairness in Nevada by attempting to make this bill enforceable.  Unfortunately, one day after National Equal Pay Day, Senate Republicans opposed every amendment to give this bill teeth.  Today Nevadans saw the clear contrast between Democrats committed to ensuring economic opportunity for everyone, not just the wealthy, with Republicans committed to protecting the bottom line of big corporations and special interests.”
