Las Vegas, NV – Nevada State Democratic Party Chair Roberta Lange released the following statement in response to President Barack Obama’s State of the Union Address:
“Tonight President Obama laid out a comprehensive plan to help working families by ensuring everyone has a fair shot at success, not just the wealthy. In contrast, Washington Republicans like Cresent Hardy and Joe Heck support failed Republican policies that slash investments that help the middle class while rewarding corporations that ship American jobs overseas. The choice could not be clearer: while Democrats are pushing policies that level the playing field and help middle class families — like extending sick leave, increasing the minimum wage, and cutting taxes for the middle class– Republicans continue to prioritize policies that help millionaires and big corporations at the expense of everyone else.
“Here in Nevada, Republicans like Mark Hutchison, Michele Fiore, and Michael Roberson are pursuing a reckless voucher scheme that cuts funding from public schools to subsidize wealthy families who can afford to send their kids to private schools. I urge Republicans in Washington and Carson City to stop going to bat for millionaires and large corporations and work with Democrats on ensuring economic opportunity for everyone, not just the wealthy few who don’t need the help.”
