NV Dems Statement on President Obama’s Support of Marriage Equali

Las Vegas, NV – Nevada State Democratic Party Chair Roberta Lange released the following statement praising President Obama’s announcement that he supports marriage equality:

“I commend President Obama for announcing his support for marriage equality today.  President Obama has made equal rights for all Americans a cornerstone of his Administration and today’s announcement further highlights his tremendous leadership on this issue.  The Obama Administration has taken historic steps to end discrimination, including repealing Don’t Ask Don’t Tell, signing historic hate crime legislation, and ensuring hospital visitation rights for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender patients and their loved ones.  President Obama’s commitment to ending discrimination stands in stark contrast to corporate layoff specialist Mitt Romney, who is not only opposed to civil unions, he actually believes we should amend the U.S. Constitution to prevent committed gay and lesbian couples from marrying.  Nevadans have a clear choice in this election between President Obama, who is committed to moving the country forward by creating jobs and ending discrimination, and Mitt Romney, whose federal marriage amendment would be the first time the nation amended the Constitution to deny Americans equal rights."
