Will Heller Continue Protecting Big Oil Instead Of Nevada Families, Seniors?

Las Vegas, NV – With the Senate scheduled to vote this week to eliminate billions of dollars in taxpayer giveaways for oil companies, appointed Senator Dean Heller will once again have to choose between Big Oil and Nevada families.  However, given his track record padding the pockets of oil executives with government giveaways at the same time the industry is funneling tens of thousands in contributions to campaign coffers, we have a pretty good idea on which side he's going to come down.

The choice in this election couldn't be clearer.  While Shelley Berkley is fighting to eliminate the billions of dollars in taxpayer subsidies Big Oil receives to help pay down the deficit, Dean Heller and his fellow DC Republicans consistently stand up for the oil industry while voting to raise insurance premiums for Nevada seniors by $6,000 a year, end veterans benefits and kill clean energy jobs.

“Considering Dean Heller has so far continued his reckless job-destroying agenda in the Senate, it’s no surprise he plans to vote again to protect ridiculous taxpayer giveaways to Big Oil companies while gutting Medicare, veterans benefits and good paying clean energy jobs,” said Zach Hudson, spokesperson for the Nevada State Democratic Party.  "How come Heller only appears concerned about deficit reduction when defending his plan to eliminate Medicare, but doesn't say a peep about wasteful spending when defending billions in taxpayer dollars to oil executives?"

"Maybe if Nevada seniors relying on Medicare had donated tens of thousands of dollars to Heller’s campaign like the oil and gas industry has, Heller wouldn’t be trying to end Medicare as we know it while protecting Big Oil’s record profits.”
